One reason why European cities are so different to North American cities, is that North America (both US and Canada) has extremely strict zoning laws. In North America modern zoning laws prevent commercial and residential buildings, as well as different types of residential buildings, from being build in the same zone. Only areas that were zoned before the modern zoning laws, are different types of buildings allowed to be build together. Also most of North America has been zoned for single family homes. These factors have created the massive carbon copy suburbs, that are rare in rest of the world. They are also the reason why North America is so car dependent, residential areas are so far away from stores, schools, hospitals, etc., people can't just walk to their corner shop or to school. This is also the reason why North American cities go from skyscrapers immediately to suburbs.

I think cigarette use is mainly more public and maybe more spread across social classes. However as 28% of Germans smoke compared to 25% of Americans, the number of smokers is apparently not that different.

German weather is crazy. You can have sunshine, heavy rain, windless weather and crazy storm in just one day :D But the Jack Wolfskin armee is ready and packed for every weather. The Deuter Backpacks are fully stuffed with functional clothing, 2 different type of shoes and big lunch packages for a whole wolfpack. Hot and cold beverages are in the right containers, that keeps hot drink stay hot and cold drinks stay cold. :D obviously I exaggerated a bit... you can't prepare for german weather, it's too varied :D Mikey, Nick, I hope you´ll have a great season with the Unicorns, stay healthy and uninjured! I never realized how depressingly grey Germany gets in winter before travelling and talking to foreigners. Not the best time for a first impression but I'm curious if Mikey's impressions change in Spring. To me it makes all the difference
