Becoming the youngest player to ever earn a PGA Tour card, Ty Tryon garnered a lot of hype and attention. However, after only a couple years on tour, he quickly flamed out, and it sparked the debate of how young is too young for the PGA Tour.

Thanks for your stories. Actually met Ty in AZ like 20 yrs ago. Wow, talk about resilience, persistence. When does one say uncle and just move on. Golf isn't everything. Sometimes talent just doesn't translate to success for whatever reason and that's ok. Maybe your talented and creative in other ways. Truly wish the best for him and its ok to let go of the past and those glory days which can be very addictive. Golf can be fun and social recreationally.

He was on tiger woods PGA tour 2003 video game. Everyone thought he'd have a hall of fame career for sure! Great video!

I remember Ty from the Orlando area mini-tours. Beautiful golf swing. If he were to make a comeback and achieve some big success, it would make for a great story. I wish him luck.

I was there in 2001 when he made the cut at the Honda Classic. Saw him hit a number of shots and was certain he would make it on the tour. I think his biggest mistake was not going to college. He went for the dollar bills and it ended up ruining what could’ve been a promising career. He wasnt mentally prepared at that age to handle the pressure and money.

Side note: his ball striking is so good, he makes it look easy. Explosive iron shots - every single one of them.

I think you hit it spot on. He wasn't ready for what professional golf required. Really a shame. I too think David Leadbetter didn't help his situation.

Great point at 9:42…..Leadbetter is the kiss of death.

I am not 100% sure but it could be also be down to maybe just approach and attitude. We see this in football (soccer) all the time. Manchester United had top young graduate academy players like Ravel Morrison but failed to hit his potential because the attitude/mindset isn’t right. Having talent is one thing but having the work attic and attitude is another.

Great young golfer. I did not know that he got involved with Leadbetter, who was definitely not a good choice for a few golfers. Too bad though, too much too soon. Great kid. I hope he is able to do something with his career.

If you look into a guy called Oscar Sharpe. There’s a great interview with him on YouTube. Best junior the UK ever produced. So natural. Then went to America for school but unfortunately got in with Leadbetter and because too technical. Ended up giving up the game. He was such a huge talent as well.

If your a great young player in your sport it doesn’t mean professional sports is your calling
Health and happiness is most important

he was an absolutely beautiful teenager - probably got too obsessed with his looks and ignored his career

Although Ty was a young phenom I still say the player that flamed out with the most promise was Anthony Kim. In my opinion if Anthony would have had the desire to be a hall of famer he would have been. Outside of Tiger I’m not sure I’ve ever seen as much talent as Kim had.
