During a meeting with legendary French photo dealer and expert Serge Plantureux in August 2011 held in his atelier premises at the Galerie Vivienne in Paris, Jans Bock-Schroeder was presented with a proposal.

Plantureux, who had enthusiastically heard about the 1980 “Staging Action” project by visual artists Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince, in which Prince and Sherman had portrayed each other in reversed roles, encouraged Bock-Schroeder to photograph his father's pictures.

Provided the pictures turned out to be good, he would display them at his exhibition stand during the forthcoming Paris Photo Fair at Grand Palais in Paris.

Visual Independence is an online photo channel located within the Bock-Schroeder Foundation Eco System.

First launched in Paris in 2010, Visual Independence showcases rare and highly regarded 19th, 20th, and 21st century fine art photography.

Visual Independence mediates high-quality photographic works by acting as a liaison between artists, administrators, museums, gallery owners, collectors, and lovers of rare photographic prints.
