You are completely correct on all points. SLS is a white elephant of enormous proportions starting with the MLP, and NASA's Artemis could be accurately described as 'Space Science Virtue Signalling'. I guarantee that the next "person" on the Moon will not have anything to do with getting themselves there. Their hand will be held when things get scary, and they will get all the credit for getting there. If and when I get myself to the Moon will not be remarkable to any one but myself.

Yeah, perfect, except how come they can't get us a single picture of the surface? And why did they let us watch 4 hours of close approach livestream and not tell us we wouldn't get to see the surface?
Then after all that waiting and disappointment.... they tell everyone watching the livestream don't go yet we are going to switch to a live view as we pass DIRECTLY over the Apollo 11 landing site at an altitude of ONLY 1100
Then they switch to a live view of MISSION CONTROL!!!!
AND THEY NEVER SAY A THING ABOUT IT.
They HAD to know we were all expecting to see the surface.
Then they CUT THE FEED.

With our current technology/astronauts, we can't really have a permanent presence on Luna gateway..
We don't have the radiation shielding for a long stay, they would have to constantly switch out astronauts at a crazy rate..

Permanent presence on the moon is possible, but would require a serious mass load delivered, with machinery that can dig and bury things..
Or we need to find good moon caves, which we haven't yet..
