Julia Quinn has several characters in various books that read a novel called "Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron". Quinn's readers were so interested in reading Miss Butterworth's story that she ended up writing a graphic novel!

The Blind Assassin has a book within a book, and actually another book within THAT book, it's all very Inception but it's one of my absolute favourite novels. Also pretty sure I know the book you're talking about and so can leave this 😉

😉 I think I know the mystery book! It was my favourite as a teenager and I recently gave it to my Nan to read. She wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending but I thought it was beautiful and completely heart shattering. Fountain, vase, library, dress, war??
