NASA Crashes Satellite Into Asteroid to Save Earth

History was made when NASA successfully crashed a satellite into an asteroid. It sounds like a really bad mistake, but mission control has never been this excited to see a lost signal. DART was the first test of our ability to defend the Earth against an asteroid. A team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory attempted to move an asteroid seven million miles away in hopes of being able to defend the planet in the future. This is completely wrong. The Satillite crashed into the asteroid to see if it could affect its orbit round another and it caused absolutely no threat to earth in any way so how did it "Save Earth" if earth didnt need saving in the first place.

Misleading title. The mission was a test to see if a life ending asteroid could be stopped by humans. There was not an extinction asteroid heading towards Earth..
