NASA Crashes Satellite Into Asteroid to Save Earth

History was made when NASA successfully crashed a satellite into an asteroid. It sounds like a really bad mistake, but mission control has never been this excited to see a lost signal. DART was the first test of our ability to defend the Earth against an asteroid. A team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory attempted to move an asteroid seven million miles away in hopes of being able to defend the planet in the future. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

i could only imagine the stress mathemations and physicians were under calculating where to send the rocket so it could hit a target 7 mil miles away in a vast void

my favorite part was when NASA stated before that this asteroid had no danger and was just a test for DART and that they aren't saving earth

Imagine if it knocked it off course to collide with Earth.

This is completely wrong. The Satillite crashed into the asteroid to see if it could affect its orbit round another and it caused absolutely no threat to earth in any way so how did it "Save Earth" if earth didnt need saving in the first place.

Now, if a threat comes towards Earth and I die, that'll be disappointing.

I’m so happy that I got to see this live

Misleading title. The mission was a test to see if a life ending asteroid could be stopped by humans. There was not an extinction asteroid heading towards Earth..

Well seems like a really cool idea I'm wondering what they would do if there was a bigger asteroid than that🤔

Damn what a clickbait title.... Top tier journalism... They did it as a proof of concept to see if it's possible to change the orbit of a celestial body, not because this asteroid had any risk of hitting Earth...

Thank you satellite your sacrifice will always be remembered😢

THIS TITLE IS CLICKBAIT. Earth was never in danger from this asteroid. It says so right in the video! The whole point was to practice for the future.

Wait til Dimorphos finds out who threw that satellite at it.
