S. Korean navy conducts training with British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in East Sea

'움직이는 군사 기지' 英 항모...韓 해군과 연합 훈련

The navy has conducted a combined training exercise with British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth this week in the East Sea.
The drills focused on humanitarian search and rescue... as well as maritime replenishment.
The strike group was made of eight ships, including two destroyers and two frigates.
It also included an American vessel and one from the Netherlands.
But they did not join the South Korea-UK exercise.
The HMS Queen Elizabeth is capable of carrying three-dozen F-35B stealth fighters, which can fly up to 72 sorties a day.
Seoul is also pushing for its own light aircraft carrier project, partially benchmarking the British ship.

S Korea need 60, 000 ton carrier to use KF21. In long run, money spent on it will stay within S Korea for jobs for maintenance which cost more than buying fighter and ship. Also bigger deck is safer to operate thus even UK didn't want to go back to small carrier with VSTOL type aircraft after operating 3 VSTOL small aircraft carriers. Larger carrier with catapult system will have more fire power than 3 Chinese aircraft carrier with ski jump which their fighters can't fly with anti ship missiles due to weight. Also ski jump carriers have to go full speed for lift off fighters thus if their engine has problem, their aircraft can not fly.

S Korea need nuclear submarines more than aircraft carrier. If S Korea build aircraft carrier then it should be 60, 000 ton carrier with catapult system like UK because bigger deck is safer to operate and able to use domestic fighters like KF21 saving costs over F35B. Aircraft carrier for S Korea will break its pocket. More efficient way for S Korea to have its own aircraft carrier is dedicated stealthy UAV aircraft carrier size under 20, 000 ton using all domestic technology developing new war strategy.
