THE EYES OF A CHILD // Noémi Association

The Noemi association wants to change the way society looks at people with multiple disabilities. Its mission? To improve their daily lives. The association wants us to look at these people in a positive way and to respect their dignity, while bringing them joy and happiness.

L’association Noémi veut changer le regard de la société sur le polyhandicap. Sa mission ? Améliorer l’accompagnement des personnes polyhandicapées. L’association souhaite que nous portions un regard confiant sur le potentiel de ces personnes, empreint d’optimisme, soucieux de leur dignité tout en leur apportant du bonheur et de la joie.

Sometimes people with disabilities aren't able to control the actions they perform, the adults are able to understand this fact. Therefore mimicking someone who you can see has a disability may lead the adults to think that it is an involuntary reaction and mimicking would be disrespectful and rude.  
Whereas the children aren't able to understand these concepts fully, and are continuing with the game.

Lovely to a point. Children (at that age) imitate; but adults sympathise. The difference is age, and experience, and understanding. Beautiful nevertheless, for all our flaws, at all our ages.

So the point is, those kids think of/treat her as a normal person, whereas the adults were a little uncomfortable? The kids treated her exactly like those previous normal persons, everyone's equal in the kids' eyes.

I think the point is, in the kids' eyes, person with a disability is just another person making a silly face(which i think was actually doing in purpose). So they continued to do eat was instructed to them.. while the adults feel like they are making fun of the person and they feel like they have yo treat the girl witha disabilty differently from everyone else.

En el contexto de un juego de imitación de caras, esta bien. Es una ternura la inocencia de los niños. Los adultos pensamos mucho mas las cosas, por eso al ver a la niñita discapacitada piensas en todo lo que hay detrás. A mi personalmente no me gustaría que un niño se parara frente a mi hija y se pusiera a imitar sus gestos, o su carita "diferente". Prefiero sea mirada como a una igual, con una cara diferente. Yo creo que hay que enseñarles a los niños que hay personas diferentes, y que no hay que apuntarlas, y que nos acerquemos a ellos y los tratemos como a cualquier persona, con mucho respecto.

This only shows the innocence of the children; It's not a matter of righteousness in any way. The only thing you can see is that they are different from adults (For better or for worse, it's not always black and white). If the last person had been Hitler raising his hand, the result would probably be very similar; A bunch of kids imitating without concerns and a bunch of adults being more cautious about the situation and its implications..
