The fact that he has missed all these games, and still leads in all these categories tells the story of the Yankees offense.
I think the Yankees are going to need another big offensive player. Right now no one is hitting great.
Has DJ's decline to the equivalent of backup infielder been because he simply aged out, or will he get better?

Rizzo seems like he's playing hurt. His exit velo is like that of a fungo bat. Has his age caught up to him as well?

Donaldson: I don't even want to get into it.

Volpe is a rookie experiencing a slow learning curve to big-league pitching. If the Yankees were playing well, it would be ok...but the offense is awful without Judge and to a lesser extent, Bader. I'm not sure how much longer the Yankees can afford this level of play.

Gleyber Torres made an awful defensive play in the last game. It cost a run to score in a 1 run game that the Yankees lost. Jason, I feel like you were waiting for something like this to happen so you could raise the volume of your "Trade Gleyber" campaign. I think your negativity toward him has been disproportionate to his level of play. Overall he's been pretty good this year. By no means is he playing like a superstar, but (as you say) "he isn't the problem." If they bring Peraza up, it will probably be to swap with Volpe...not to trade Gleyber. The biggest need right now has been offense, not pitching.

Left field was never addressed in the winter. Having a cadre of cast-off 4th outfielders is a terrible solution. I expect roster changes at or near the deadline. Peraza will either be up here or part of a big trade. Our old players right now are slumping all at once, or have regressed into bad players. DJLeMahieu, Anthony Rizzo, Josh Donaldson: a few years ago they were elite players. Right now they are "the problem" Stanton is a wildcard. If and when he's healthy he is always a threat. Unfortunately, he's injured so often, he just isn't reliable.

The solution is: Raise the payroll on this 7.1 billion dollar money printing press and bring in better players. Spend it intelligently. Add pieces to enhance postseason play. Cashman: Stop trying to be Billy Beane. This is the New York freaking Yankees.

Wake me up when the analytic-driven lineups end... One day you're 1st, then you hit 4th, next game you're 9th and the last game of the series you hit 6th...

Nice intro. You can't only blame Volpe for the offensive problems. Rizzo has been struggling, DJ has been struggling, Donaldson has been struggling, the list goes on. The bats need to wake up, it's been a poor performance by the Yankees. Also, the Yankees need to stop being heavily reliant on the bullpen.

On a positive note, hopefully the Yankees can win tonight's game with Severino on the mound and with the starting lineup.

Volpe is not going to get sent down per Steinbrenner and I agree they need to bring Peraza up.

Fact is the Yankees are not a good hitting team. They rank to the bottom half of almost every statistical category there is. They weren’t a good hitting team last year and they did zero to improve on it.

We got veteran big league players. Problem is, their on the IL. A yankee paid individual, who's twice or more the players age, didn't go on IL when John Sterling was hit above the eye with a foul ball. How about old school Ronnie Lott who bit his pinky off to remain in the game. No, a sprained toe keeps you out. Didn't complain of injury after the game at Dodgers stadium when interviewed. Hard to watch the games.
