Looking inside the Sturmey Archer SRF3 3 speed wide range internal gear hub (subtitled).

This is a video of taking a Sturmey Archer SRF3 apart, re-greasing it and putting it back together. Read the subtitles. Pause if you need to. I have another video on a NOS 32 hole hub also, that I narrate vocally.

I'm greasing the hub with "00" grease in this video. I recommend oil, like 10w30 as it just seems to make the hub (or really all the Sturmey Archers) ride smoother. The oil will "shed" or leak unlike the grease. This 00 grease is more like Phil oil and still somehow leaks.

Thank you . A really great video. Thank you. I will be using it tomorrow, to service my Brompton 3spd hub.

Wish a video would cover a Scram 3 sp IGH.

Can the cone wrench be substituted for a second adjustable wrench acting on the axle?

the drive ring finally came off on my 10 year old hub aluminium shell and ring treads were probably bound by galvanic corrosion

There really is no reason to remove the sprocket from the driver.

The owner should be told off. That poor hub has not been oiled!!

The part you call the "indicator chain" is NOT an "indicator" of anything. It is PROPERLY called the TOGGLE chain, because it is used to "toggle" between the different ratios of the hub.
