A couple fun facts about this story. Most Disney fairy tales are from stories collected by the Grimm brothers in 1800's but Beauty And The Beast was actually a novel. The story in the novel is a LOT more complex than in the story most people know from the movies. For one thing, prince Adam wasn't cursed for being mean to an old lady, he was cursed for *spurning the unwanted sexual advances* of an old woman who also happened to be a powerful fairy. A second good fairy helps him. It actually pretty interesting.

In the world of the book, powerful curses need a 'way out' clause for them to work. That key can be convoluted and crazy difficult, but it does have to be possible. The evil fairy put a curse on the prince that would kill him after a certain amount of time. She would remove it if he married her. The 'way out' had the following rules:


1. He had to get a woman of royal birth (which Beauty secretly was) to say she loved him and agree to marry him
2. He had to act as though he was mentally challenged whenever he was physically in her presence.
3. He could not tell her ANYTHING about the curse
The good fairy came up with a plan to check all those boxes and figured out a loophole in the rules that made things doable.

Probably my favourite retelling of the story. Its the most accurate because people always forget to mention Belle cheating on Beast with her horse at the end 🙄

This entire movie would have been half as long if Belle had brought her dad back to the castle actually. Imagine a movie where Belle brings her dad back and the servents help nurse him back to health, leaving her to do half as much work and be half as stressed because she doesn't have to do nearly as much for him. She could fall in love with Beast when she catches Beast spoon feeding her father soup and reading him a story or something, then sincerely apologizing for calling him a thief.
