Thanks for all the awesome suggestions everyone. Looks like the consensus is yes to a tail, so I'll see what I can do. Cheers! :)

Yes. Definitely a tail! It would fit with the Balrog aesthetic.

Oh, good idea. If you go with a tail, I think it would be sweet to have a gnarled looking 2 or 3 part split in the tail, like techno-tentacles from the tripods in War of the Worlds. It fits your idea of a cyber Balrog. Also, you could use the tail to frame the body in the shape of flames or a whip like action. So, the tail helps balance the piece and creates a frame of fire from the background. I’m picturing something like the arm of a fully articulate desk lamp, but with some archaic detail. Good luck!

How about a tail like structure carrying sun seeking solar panels that recharge the mech's batteries? Just a thought. Can't wait for the next vid.
BRNNA
A tail would definitely make it look more like an animal / demon mech, rather than just a mech with claws. Go for it!
kurogiza
I think the tail may be obvious, so i don't think it should have one, unless you want to add a pair of flaming wings in that case he need a tail to balance the shape. Love the idea behing this piece!
giacomobrondolin
Yes, a tail for sure, not sure if it should be long or a half tail, but a tail gets a thumbs up from me 👍
MLTharme
Yeah a tail would look awesome. Rwally help with the roaring pose
BrushQuill
Could be cool with a 3 clamp pincher type tip so it could be used for both offensive and could help to hold while dangling to hide or surprise attack. So not only while fighting do you worry about the mech but here’s an articulated tail that comes over or around or rear protection and grabs you, a weapon, your weapon and etc. as long as the tail is articulated and functional. I think would be awesome and all demons need a tail. Cheers!!
EDIT: It’s awesome as is but if you add.. see above 😃

Yes, a tails would be perfect it would balance out the model and up the "demon" factor

A tail would add a pretty cool movement, and a nice dynamic. I suggest something that looks like the Xenomorph's pointing toward the upper left side (when facing it) of the creature, kinda like if you crept up behind it's back and it sudently felt you and turned around. Imagine a long bony whip with a blade or a mace, maybe ? Or something that would look like a lion's tail with some wires at the end ?

A tail curling round would be awesome. Maybe a chain of cylinder like pieces looking like a mechanical spine?
RecklessModelling
Tail thats also a detachable sword...or a split tail that can curve round and become hand cannons.
SimonMods
I would have changed the pose for a tail. More like Alien-style. Leaning forward.

Stunning piece already, but you asked we answer. If you are indeed going for the Balrog look, as I believe you mentioned earlier in the design/build process, then a tail would be an absolute necessity. I don't know how closely you wish the finished piece to resemble the inspiration, given it's a mech, but Balrog has wings as well.
In some of the pictures of Balrog they almost seem to be glowing, how about going all in, solidifying the idea of mech copying myth by doing some glowing orange EL wire to the internal structure and wings as well to complete the imagery/backstory and the A.I interpretation of a fire orientated demon? Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.
robbough
Great idea, a tail would be class.. but what way would an A.I design what a tail should look like??🤯
davidkavanagh
Plates along it's spine, like a Stegosaurus. Heat sinks or folding armoured shielding to protect its rear allowing it to turn its back towards enemy fire.
baxterboy
Counter balance - maybe some crazy weapon. Not so sure a rain would hit the aesthetic
RetroRoboland
+1 for tail. I think some king of mace would rock.
andlukeable
Several short tails like exhausts would be cool, or a single chamber to hold stolen souls, or maybe a split tail with each side able to swing round and become forward facing BFGs or even a second pair of arms.
