People slept on Emery's Villarreal getting to a CL semi with these principles. He's managed to create a system that seems perfect for an upper/mid-table club who need to compete with big teams who dominate the ball and smaller teams who will sit in and defend off the ball.

People really don’t know Emery, i follow him since the time he was at Valencia in 2008/2012. He was one of the few coaches who could give that all star Barcelona team coached by Guardiola tough games. His reputation was tarnished by Psg bcs he had to coach a team full of egomaniacs and Arsenal who was just a mess at the time. Im glad he is getting the respect he deserves one of the best football tacticians in the world.

Unai’s quickly developing settled players whilst also bringing in new ones who suit his team. Watkins for instance has 40 G/A in all comps in 50 games under Unai, that’s touching world-class levels

I’ve seen fourfourtwo, Tifo football ETC and they are all good but the way you explain the game and visually illustrate it is unmatched 👉🏾👈🏾😔

To succeed as a manager it’s not enough that your tactics are bulletproof but you need to able to educate your players on positions, movements and tactics of your football. This requires a group of players who are willing to listen and learn from you. Thats more important than anything at the highest level when assembling a team. Because at the end of the day - the faith and willingness of players to execute on the managers tactics is what plays out on the field in a game. The manager is not the main driver but the players are. This is why clubs where you have toxic know it alls and unprofessionals among the players doesn’t succeed - examples are Chelsea and Manchester United. Poch and Ten Hag are not bad managers - their players don’t have any discipline to execute their tactics in a game especially when things aren’t going their way.
Every manager at this level has outstanding tactics and footballing brain. Some are probably slightly better but the reason teams perform differently is inherently down to how much the players understand a managers tactics and is willing to give 100% towards it.

Emery has found his place in Villa. After all those wasted stints at PSG, Arsenal. He's best at getting a mid table team to punch above their weight through collective and rehearsed plays defined from the basis of the oppositions tactics. He's also very hardworking. Wishing him the best from an Arsenal fan. Good Ebening!

As an overly excitable Villan who has watched every bit of content available, this is by some distance the best tactical breakdown I’ve seen. Bravo.

I am in dream land, Villa are breaking all kinds of records right now and I love it. Emery is the best thing to happen to villa in over 30 years, long may it continue. emery is just a master. UTV!

Fiquei impressionado com a forma como eles defendem, são tão corajosos, agressivos e coordenados, a linha defensiva se posiciona muito avançada e há muitos impedimentos durante o jogo

I can recall this is what Ralf Rangnick tried to bring to Man United, but the players were not ready to put in the hard work

Soon we’ll see this flexibility be the norm in the pl, Everton have also got this ability to play two different playstyles (but not to the same level as villa)

I love this .. I felt like you're talking about my team and my favorite manager Carlo Ancelotti .. it's very similar shape .. even the front 5 are similar (but the opposite : with right back and left winger rodrygo or vinicius)

Adaptability .. is the way forward

Emery also has a way with mid tier (financially) teams. Teams that are not quite Man City rich but have enough resources and pedigree to push for a top 4 finish and maybe even win the Europa League. The Villarreals, Sevillas, and now Aston Villa. You don't expect them to win the League but you expect them in contention for Europe. Maybe one day he'll finish what he's cooking and win a top 5 league with a mid tier team.

Box midfield - Carlos Alberto Parreira did it in 1994 nearly 30 years ago and won the world cup with Brazil!
