What so called dory in indonesian market is not deep sea John dory but instead a fish from genus Pangasius or locally known as patin. In The Nederland sold under the name panga filet.

Dory fish in Indonesia is actually pangasius fish (a genus of catfish), local people often called it as "ikan patin"

The dory fish is john dory. Fish native to south east asian. The fish and chips use dory because it's native, better stock, and cheaper than imported cod.

Also Dory in finding nemo is not this fish. Dory in that movie is the character name not the fish type. Just pike Nemo is the character name and not the Fish type.

It's not even real dory. Dory (John dory, Silver dory etc) is a group of sea fish consumed mainly in Australia. It's prized for its scarcity (less than 35kg caught yearly and it's controlled by quotas).

The "Dori" in south east asia a Pangasius Sp.a type of catfish that lives in rivers and could sustainably be farmed. It has been farmed for decades in South East Asia but remains unpopular for the first few decades, losing to the much more popular Tilapia and other farmed fish.

The reason it's called dori is because its frozen fillet became highly popular in Vietnam for restaurants and eatery. The Vietnamese called it "dori" and the name have stuck since.
