How to keep your edges straight in crochet

I use Bobby pins instead of stitch markers. Cheap and not likely to break. But that’s how I make sure to hit all the stitches in my row. Especially for blankets. Who wants to count that many stitches? Great tips thanks for sharing.

Another tip:don't forget to chain 1 if your doing a single crochet (I forgot to do it and it turns out like that)

When in doubt, I slip stich. I had a glove pattern I was following where, despite doing everything correctly, the edges never lined up right. I ended up slip stitching into the end of each row to keep it even, and it turned out fine.

Or, for people like me that hate counting the same row 8 times because they lost count, keep a ruler handy. I measure at the end of every 2 or 3 rows. Just write the measurement down after your second row for a better gauge of actual tension. Follow that number as a guide.
Forgetting to put in that slip stitch at the end of each row will cause a decrease in stiches and it took me far too many projects before I realized this🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I wish Youtube was around when I was first learning!

I’m doing a color work scarf for my nephew and I’m using stitch markers on EVERY row. It’s the straightest my edges have ever been.
It’s also helping me keep count so I can duplicate what I’m doing if I want but that’s besides the point 😂
