We have a 9000 hp motor that runs our mega shredder I’ve seen them pull it out twice to be rebuilt.

You cannot be forklift certified to carry this... You'd need to be forklift elected

As someone who works maintenance in a paper mill, I'm really enjoying the uptick in paper mill related content and especially the slander. Those bearings truly are the bane of my employment

My Uncle Jack used to be the head electrician at Hunt's cannery in Oakdale, California. He taught himself how to rewind big industrial motors at the plant...some of which were 1000hp or so. He got so good at it, and saved so much money for the cannery, they sent him all of the motors needing to be rebuilt from all of their canneries. And...he even rebuilt motors for the competitor's too...the cannery would charge the competitors premium for the service, which they happily paid, because that was always cheaper than buying a new one.
Angry Pixies indeed! 🤓

I worked at rubber mixing in my younger years, and we had a 1000 hp motor geared down through a transmission from 1800rpm down to 40 rpm driving the twin screw mixer. The torque of that motor was insane.

I work in a paper mill. The paper dust is the enemy of all moving things. Even my lungs.

I used to be a millwright working at stelco nanticoke. My first day I was put on a job separating a drive shaft connected to a 10 000hp electric motor that ran the rougher. I was there the day they had to do a rebuild on it and watching the mega sized parts be lifted out by overhead crane was really cool to watch. I’d say the spinning part was about the size of a portable office. Pretty cool seeing that

Mill Billy here helping run a recovery boiler for paper mill. Every pump is either leaking like my grandmas depends or they’re grinding like a preteen at their first dance…. Situation normal, all is F***ed.

Every time you say, "Wanna see something cool?" I smile. You remind me a lot of my dad. I miss him so much.

4160 on the ship was always fun. 4th deck had two 4160/480 100, 000kVA transformers that made for nice space heaters in port in winter cold iron watches.

My first job out of high school was in an electric motor shop. In there we worked on all kinds of motors just like these. I can still tell you that it looks like a General Electric DC motor. Taking this stuff apart would take a team of us a day or two to take apart and diagnosis. It was the most fun I’d ever had on a job site. Being the new guy who knew nothing about electronics, or electrical power in general, it was nice to learn from guys who knew their stuff. Small motor for conveyor to big AF DC motors to move entire bridges it was always fun to maintain that piece of infrastructure. God bless all who keep our world turning, and I’m glad I was a part of that select few at a young age.

2 possibilities, bearings or stator. We just had to replace this motors brother at the power plant i work at. The stator gap tolerance is supposed to be around 1.02 mm all around. The as found measurements were around 10.67 mm. It was making some pretty expensive sounds too.

Expensive sounds is literally a fucking technical term at this point. I love it.

Chris, I want to let you know I love your story and your content. I’m a Journeyman Wireman in the process of getting my Master Electrician License. I worked in the oil business for Halliburton for over 19 years and moved back home here to Mississippi from the hustle and bustle of of Houston Tx back when Covid hit. Started a new career in this field and I love it. I am getting to help manage a new hospital project and the mental stimulation of what we do
Everyday set its hook in me. I’ve only been a sub for a couple of months to your page after the algorithm led me here. Again, I truly admire your passion for your chosen field and your transparency about your journey. Keep being the light out here in a world that desperately needs you to do what you do. Happy Holidays and thank you for adding some joy to my life and inspiring me enough to share your videos with my work team. Keep it between the ditches pal!!

As a trucker, I have done loads to and from paper mills and paper recycling plants. Imo, the scariest thing at a paper mill is the rolls of paper. Good way to be turned into a pancake! Oh and the paper dust is also very flammable.

Reminds me of my work experience (in the UK, 16 year olds are sent from schools to "work") - Mine was in a heavy machine shop and a 1, 000HP motor would have been considered a 'small' job...

One of the parts I helped with was the shaft of a turbine. It was around 25ish tons and they had me handling the crane to move it down the shop and help get it mounted in the biggest lathe you've ever seen. Then they had me shot blasting later in the week (not media or glass but actual bits of shot from a high pressure hose)...

Fun times.
