Benson Henderson is one of the most respectful fighters, however, he doesn't like being told no.
He loves fighting with the toothpick in his mouth even though he probably knows he shouldn't.
He believes it's a "zen" thing. Perhaps it also reminds him to keep his mouth closed during the fight, which helps with not getting rocked and breathing out of the nose.
No matter what rebellious behavior he does, he's still a solid fighter.

He holds it against his gum and absorbs it slowly during the fight.
