In this video, I show you the tracks of river otters, mink, and raccoons. I explain how to tell them apart, and show some of the gaits they use on the river's edge. This was filmed along the South Fork Eel River, in Humboldt County, California. This river is home a many species, some of which are indicators of ecosystem health, like otters and mink. It's a joy to find the tracks of these animals, and it was exciting to find them right next to each other like this! It's also good to be able to compare raccoon with otter tracks since they are very close in appearance. In this case, the critters cooperated by leaving tracks almost side by side, and I show those here. I hope you enjoy this look into life on the river!
