Simultaneous Equations by substitution - GCSE level 7+

Find the values of x and y when 3x+y=8 and 3x^2+y^2=28

hey, this video was very helpful thank you! i just have a question for one of my tests and i tried to look every were but still cant find an answer. the question is 2p^2 - p = 15. i know p=3 because i worked it out kind of guessing but i want to know how you would come to an answer like this in case i have questions with higher numbers.
