When we were first given our Newfoundland, I started reading about the breed and though I'm an animal lover, I thought, 'Oh, come on! I'm sure they're wonderful but that character and behaviour described seemed kind of 'too much'. Well, after having the gift and pleasure of having such a great great creature, I can assure you that every word is true and even more!! He passed away peacefully at the age of 14 and a half 11 years ago and I still think of him every day and still tear up. I know that I should just be happy that he had a great life filled with so much love, care, admiration from all who met him, good food(!), swimming, rides/walks in the countryside and living on a mountain overlooking a beautiful bay but I still miss him!! If interested, there's a lovely poem written by Lord Byron about his Newfoundland, which is so touchingly true! ❤

anyone who owns (owned) an intact newfie male, will know this diatribe is absolute rubbish!
my boy does nothing for anyone but himself, couldn't care less about children, either wants to 'sniff' the females, play with neutered males or fight intact males.
he's the most hard headed, infuriating slobbery mess i've ever known or seen, but i love him dearly.
