I Got BANNED from DEPOP (Avoid this Reseller Mistake!)

Yes, it's true - I was permanently band from selling on Depop. This is a story of "don't do what I did" - hopefully me sharing my mistake will help someone else avoid this same situation.

Ugh, I am so sorry to hear this! I too got these emails about listings being taken down for stocks and I just ended up deleting my account. I was on the platform for 2 months with not one sale and the fact you can only post 4 pictures was also very limiting so it made sense not to waste my time. I am trying to find ways not to use stocks anymore but especially with jeans, I know they help with selling! Good luck to you and I know you are doing well on many other platforms so put your energy there! I appreciate your transparency by even making this video. I think you show courage in this video and you are definitely giving a reminder that platforms are watching us resellers. My guess is that some platforms can get into trouble if they don't get rid of stock photos that we use, but what happened to you is a bummer all the same., 👎🏻

Exactly the same happened to me. I crosdlisted. Got caught, tried to delete stock wherever I could. But they even took down legit my own pictures, because I try really hard to take high quality pics. Now I'm banned. Honestly! And I don't sell name brands or anything.

Yes, I think Depop and Ebay are the strictest about this. I would hope Posh or Mercari would give a heads up if they ever change on not really enforcing this.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Thank you for sharing your experience. The only time I get frustrated when stock photos are used, is when the seller does not include any photos of their actual product and solely uses stock photos. Other than that, I think they are a good resource.

Well I just got banned from Depop for the exact reason as yours - used a stick photo. I emailed them and they said I’ve been suspended but not disclosing if it’s forever or just temporary. At first when I emailed them they sent me a email ( form letter type response) and I’m like ok it is what it is. I was wrong in using a stick photo. Bug you tell you the truth I rarely make many sales on Depop I fact I’ve accepted offers and the buyer never purchased. I also use a cross listing app so I know I must have had other items listed with stock photos. Lesson learned… 99% of the time I cut off the face so it doesn’t look like a stock photo model but that doesn’t work it seems they still do not accept that. So in the next few days I will be removing the cover photos so that Poshmark’s, EBay and Mercari don’t banned me too. I use a cross listing tool as well. So I just wanted to let you know I was banned as well.

I edit my stock photos I cut out the models face and haven’t had an issue. Wonder if I have just been lucky.

Thank you for sharing this experience. I’m sorry it happened but I’m glad you are finding the positive in it. I’ve been thinking about the stock photo thing as well and have been trying to use less and less of them….sometimes they just really help…especially for plus size clothing. I’ve been on Depop for 4-5 months and have yet to make a sale…so they can come for me🤣

Very helpful video, thank you! I have one question to ask about the reselling business in general. At what point (if at all) did you start spending on marketing for your shops? I.e. paid google ads, Instagram ads, etc

My account just got suspended and I replied to their customer service and no has replied back to resolve the issue. I will wait after 48 hours which was disclosed on the email but it just sucks since I’ve been doing so well. I also have a good amount of cash on the app as well.

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I use stock photos for items they are really helpful especially if the item has a unique look to them.
