My daughter has always been like this. She's 8 now, but always acted twice her age. With every new baby came huge regressions, because she never feels enough love and attention. We've done everything we can to give her special time, one on one play time, we talk to her constantly, engage in her interests. Mature girls seem to be really sensitive, so it's a lot of work. I feel for the mom, it's so good she was able to acknowledge what was actually happening.

Doing anything "for attention" was considered bad in and of itself in my family! Even wanting attention was bad and was punished by days or weeks of silent treatment. I got the silent treatment for months when I was 8 because I had head-aches and this was interpreted as "wanting attention".
