What are the foundations of jurisprudence and why is it necessary? Professor Hadley Arkes argues that there must be enduring principles that statesmen can rely on to make difficult decisions. Sometimes the decisions will necessarily involve compromises. Professor Arkes discusses the prime example of slavery and the jurisprudence of Abraham Lincoln.

Hadley Arkes is the Founder and Director of the James Wilson Institute on Natural Rights and the American Founding. He is Professor Emeritus of Jurisprudence at Amherst College. Professor Arkes is the author of several books and hundreds of articles.

The needs of understanding and inadvertently hurting of egos while getting to better… matters.

The balances of setting stages or setting the “universe” for discussions and/or negotiations… do not exist in vacuums… and vacuums aren’t even benign… they are negative energy.

The negative micro aggressions or negative intent can grow… fear grows. But, honesty matters, of course. It’s also important to not sever strings of connection while bringing folks into safe and effective engagement while not white washing needs nor silencing input but also stressing reality based information… If can be a lot, but hate is not ok.

There are moments where law did fall to negative energy… a good amount really, but far more often justice raises… our systems and process of work may need some help, but it’s good. And, better helps.
