“DFC” Diep FUE Curve Technique
FUE is the also known as Follicular Unit Extraction, harvesting one hair follicle at a time, leaving tiny dots of scars scattering throughout the back of the head at the donor area, less visible than the FUT or Follicular Unit Transplant or “Strip” method, allowing an individual to wear his/her hair short. FUE hair transplant is the most advance and least invasive hair transplant technique available. DFC, better known as “Diep FUE Curve technique”, is a form of FUE hair transplant surgery. Through many years of experience in the art of FUE hair surgery, Dr. Diep has invented the DFC technique in 2010 but drastically improved and refined this method in early 2011 to specifically harvest curly Black African hair roots. Black African hair is not only curly, but the root is also curly as well. Black African curly hair root is difficult to harvest by the FUE method because the curly root can be located to the left, right or many positions but not directly underneath where the hair exits the scalp. DFC predicts where the curly root lies, allowing the hair surgeon to go after it at specific curve angle into the scalp in order to harvest the entire root intact and healthy enough to transplant. The Black African hair root tends form a “C” shape or sometime takes the form of a “helical spring” or “spiraling shape”. For example, the curly hair in the back of the head when shaved short may exit the scalp at specific angle, pointing down toward the neck. The surgeon can confidently to some degree predict where the root lies and follow the “C” shape back into the scalp in order to harvest the curly root intact. The more curve the root is the more acute angle that the surgeon needs to direct the FUE device into the scalp to harvest the hair root.
