My mom used to play this. It was my favorite of all the piano pieces she played. When I was a child, I listened to her for hours as she played. She was going to have a career as a pianist, had taken lessons from the time she was a small child until she graduated high school. She and my dad eloped and she became a Mom instead. In later years, she had to "warm up" before she could play this as she got older and arthritis set in. She was very disappointed when she couldn't play any more (or knit, sew, crochet...). We got her mother's 100 year old Steinway Concert Grand piano when I was 9 and it had a sound like no other. The lid was always up. The keys were ebony and ivory, the ivory developing a lovely patina, if you will, over the years. It was years after she passed before I could listen to this beautiful piece but, finally, I am able to make it all the way through, though tears still come at the end. This was a beautiful rendition, much like my mom played it. It will always remain a very fond memory for me. Thank you for sharing this.

I had no-one who was capable of playing this at my own wedding (though I'd played it at a couple of friends' weddings from vague memory). So, I played it in the morning for my Best Man while we waited for transport to the Church! Nearly 50 years ago... This is a lovely performance, with feeling, expression and NO MAD RUSHING ABOUT!!

few mistakes? so what
Beethoven always say that playing a wrong note is nothing, playing without passion is unforgiving

On the slow part, Grieg shows the tranquility between him and his wife after they got married. The right hand represents her singing and the left hand represents Grieg's as they go back and forth.

I am learning this piece right now.  I fell in love with it over 20 years ago when I heard it for the first time.  To the person who said Interpretation is all wrong.  If everyone played the same way life would be very boring.  I feel that when you interpret something you are putting yourself into the music however you as an artist feels about the music, poetry, art, literature.  I honestly do not think there is a complete right or wrong way on how to do anything.  Yes there are markings on the music on how the composer wants the music to be played but there are times I play the music with my own interpretation to it.  It is how I feel when I play.  I think he played very well and I like to listen to remind me how much work I still have to do on this piece but it gives me something to shoot for.

Well I for one am relieved to see that a gifted pianist can make minor errors!! I’ve been harsh on my playing a lot lately for not being more-perfect even tho I believeBeethoven himself said ‘a wrong note is nothing, passion is everything’ or words to that effect. This amazing performance shows that.

As I was enjoying listening I couldn't help but thinking, my piano teacher must have been cringing all those times I played it during my lesson. I was pretty terrible, but I always loved playing it (when no one was listening.) Loved this performance.

Such beautiful artistry! Tender, somber notes, returning to the dancing feet of the melody, with a staircase of grandeur. He truly puts himself into the music! Wonderful performance! ❤

I've listened to this piece countless times, but although all those pianists were accomplished, you play with such feeling that I immediately noticed the difference between those other pianists and you. Your interpretation is full of passion and was thrilling to hear!

This evocative music holds a particular magical memory for me. Many years ago, when a Student at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University), I was with a group of students who, after a concert, ended up at a house where a young Norwegian woman was staying. There she played this piece on the piano. It always brings tears to my eyes when I recall it.

I first heard this Piano piece played by my friend Diane at her home in Mudgee, Australia. We were around 13 years old a nd that is 60 years ago! This is still my favourite piece of piano music and I applaud this passionate and beautiful version even if, untrained in piano, I heard the odd wrong note. Loved the contrasts of tone (from a visual Artist) and will be listening to this version again and again.

Brilliantly played! This is a difficult piece to play and not many pianists can manage to play this masterpiece!
