"Instead of asking which members of church leadership are related, maybe we should be asking which AREN'T?" ~not Brad Wilcox, but it could have been.

I’m sure they interviewed hundreds of active members after posting the openings and receiving thousands of applications. It just so happens that relatives are always the most qualified. Every time.

It’s blatant nepotism. And I think they couldn’t care less if we make note of it, unfortunately. They have the financial security to weather any criticism.

Henry J Eyring spoke in our stake conference a few years ago and it was such a disappointing talk/experience. He spent the whole time talking about this benign encounter with a lady on his plane - I don’t think he prepared a talk at all. He had nothing thoughtfully prepared to share or specific to the 500 people eagerly in attendance and how they can better their lives; nothing about Christ or the plan of salvation; he was trying to turn this tiny interaction with a stranger into something deeply meaningful and it fell flat. I remember thinking then, this guy has rode his dad’s coat tails his whole life and we as members participate in this fallacy that he is special because of his status as being an apostles son. Nepotism is on every level in the church.

This was the faith i was raised in since i was a boy and it was all i knew up until my faith crisis of 1998. After my faith crisis i felt broken and it took years to heal and came to realize i wasn't broken - but the church is. Thanks for posting your reminders Nemo ❤❤❤

This has been happening since the begining.

J Golden Kimball said "there are two ways to get ahead in the church. Revelation and relation. If I wasn't Heber's (Heber C Kimball) son, I wouldn't amount to (a hill of beans), (trying to keep it G rated. If you knew Golden you'd understand)"

Brigham's son Brigham Young Jr was appointed an apostle by his father and rose to be president of the quorum of the twelve.

Joseph F Smith Smith appointed his son Joseph Fielding Smith an Apostle and he eventually became Church President. But was also church historian while an apostle.

John Henry Smith was an apostle at the time his son and future church president George Albert Smith was called to be an apostle.

In those days, the apostles earned money by sitting on various boards of directors of church owned companies.

If I recall correctly, J Golden Kimball said, “this church runs on relation not revelation. If my name wasn't Kimball I never would have amounted to a hill of beans in this church"

'I install you ?? ' 👀
The pride in his eyes was gross for a supposed disciple of Jesus. They have no idea what Jesus taught they should be doing.

Henry J Eyring looks so much like his dad.

I had a bishop that put all his family members in the top callings, and would regularly deny the Bishops warehouse to everyone except his extended family.

The lies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are safe if they keep it in the family

Somehow families keep getting power, almost like they need to keep a secret…..

100% Nepotism. It also happens with building contracts and church businesses.

Matthew Holland was president of UVU for years (not necessarily nepotism) and spoke at the MTC while I was there. His speech was published in the Ensign the month I got home from my mission. Elder Holland came to the MTC too to introduce his son with a 2 minute talk. That was the day I learned we stand for general authorities like they’re royalty.

Brigham Young was not supposed to be the second prophet of the Mormon church. Joseph Smith wanted it to go to his son Joseph Smith jr. He wanted to keep it in the family. Of course, after he was killed so is his son so Brigham Young ended up being the prophet. Even back in the beginning of the church they wanted to keep it in the family and have all the callings and the prophet position held within the family, kind of like the royal family in britain. It does not surprise me that even now the church is still trying to do the same thing and keep it in the family because of course that family isn't going to speak out, they've benefited from what these leaders have done with the church's money and the so-called Revelations and all of this to guide this organization to profit them first

The leaders want to make sure their family members get as much of the sacred tithing funds as possible

This is neon loud glowing nepotism. It's a good old boys club of "who you know". In a church with millions of members, if these callings were truly thru revelation, there would not be any relatives and more people called from other countries, not just a few tokens. (My parents loved J. Golden Kimball. He swore like a sailor and said things others didn't want known. He had great cowboy humor, or so I've been told. He died long before I came along.) Oh, maybe these guys aren't paid with a paycheck like the rest of us, but given an allowance to live on is still being supported by tithe payers, so they are being paid for their positions in the church.
