☀️ The Good Life - 10/25/2024 (48) - Hesitation

Day 48 – Less than two months out, I’m realizing I’m truly afraid to leave America. This is a surprise, as I wasn’t afraid at all the last two times I left for Japan with a one-way ticket. Both times, life felt endless: young and fearless the first time, middle-aged and confident the second, with a sense of mortality not yet fully formed. So, what’s different now?

Mostly, it’s age, but also experience—and a sharper awareness of the vulnerabilities that come with getting older. There’s a feeling of stepping away from the vibrant, competitive fray that is Southern California—a place as fierce as a wild jungle. Leaving this mosh-pit of life feels like stepping into a new chapter, where I’ll be more of an observer than an active player. Perhaps it’s this shift, more than the move itself, that stirs my hesitation.

I keep scheming to delay my departure, finding excuses like “they need me at work” (they don’t) or “it’ll be better for taxes if I stay another month” (true, and maybe reason enough). But honestly, I’m like an explorer putting off setting sail for new lands, choosing instead the comfort of the place I know—the life where I know how to be and what to expect.

This experience is a reminder not to delay our Great Life Adventures for too long. With age comes comfort, hesitation, and sometimes even fear of the unknown. And if we wait too long, we might simply give up our dreams for the comfort of the familiar—and then, that dream is gone.

I really need to get out of here before it’s too late.

If you have a passion you don't need work. I know you are afraid of old brain creeping in. A passion is better than a job
