Σύμφωνα με αναφορές σε ρωσικά μέσα ενημέρωσης, που αναμεταδίδονται εδώ και λίγη ώρα, ο αρχηγός του Επιτελείου Άμυνας του Νίγηρα, διέταξε να τεθούν άμεσα σε ύψιστη επιφυλακή, οι στρατιωτικές δυνάμεις της χώρας, εντείνοντας έτσι την φημολογία που είναι διάχυτη κυρίως στο διαδίκτυο, ότι τις επόμενες ώρες επίκειται στρατιωτική επέμβαση από τις δυνάμεις του συνασπισμού κάποιων χωρών, που ανήκουν στην Οικονομική Ένωση των χωρών της Δυτικής Αφρικής και οι οποίες λέγεται ότι θα βοηθηθούν από Γαλλικά εναέρια μέσα, καθώς επίσης από άνδρες των επίλεκτων Γαλλικών ειδικών δυνάμεων.
Αυτή η απόφαση του Νίγηρα να θέσει τις στρατιωτικές του δυνάμεις σε ύψιστη επιφυλακή, έρχεται μετά την χθεσινοβραδινή, του υπουργείου εξωτερικών της χώρας, που ζήτησε από τον Γάλλο πρεσβευτή να αποχωρήσει από την χώρα, εντός 48 ωρών, δηλαδή με απλά λόγια τον απέλασε, κάτι που το Γαλλικό υπουργείο Εξωτερικών αρνήθηκε να πράξει, λέγοντας ότι δεν αναγνωρίζει καμία απόφαση της στρατιωτικής χούντας του Νίγηρα, ρίχνοντας έτσι περισσότερο λάδι στην φωτιά.
