Thank you for all the feedback!
The restaurant is called "Tal's Off Sunset!" in Los Angeles!

For real ! Omg this hit, the opener complaining she had to prep one thing out of the 50 tasks already done meanwhile the manager clocks you out early expecting you’ll be done in 30 mins

My manager says every time he gets an opportunity, "nobody will ever see what you do right. They'll only notice what you do wrong."

You know how you fix this issue? Swap everyone's shifts for 3 months.

Opener: "but i brought cake tho"

I have been a closer and a Janitor. They only see what you missed, never all the stuff you actually did.

Once at a team meeting one of the openers went on a rant about how “the closers don’t put things away in a way that’s convenient for us when we open” Dude, you have a whole ass hour(sometimes 2 depending on the day) to open in the morning with 0 customers because the place isn’t open yet. You have time. Us closers have to close everything down while still fielding and making orders for customers. We barely have enough time to get anything done on a good day and on a bad day none of us expect to be able to get out until at least an hour after close

Ah yes, the colleagues that take photos rather than helping out.

I swear. I closed a kitchen everynight at an assisted living center. Worked my ass off making everything perfect for morning and the opening staff had the nerve to say the place was filthy claiming I didn't even broom nor mop when I would go to extremes making sure every spot was exceptional, often even prepping what I could to help them out to the point I started getting written up for it. I started taking pictures of my progress for proof and it stopped real quick. What was happening was they would quickly create a mess and blame me when they didn't keep the standards up ehen the head boss showed up and got called out for it. It was my kitchen manager trying to pull this on me but I started taking pictures and videos to prove I left the place pristine. They never apologized just told me I'm doing fine. I stopped going above and beyond after that and just my job requirements. I was only paid minimum wage. One of the worst respected jobs I have ever had. I worked my ass off there only because I cared about the ppl I was serving dinner for.

Facts. I've worked as a closer and opener. The other openers would lose their minds over a spec of dust they find, meanwhile they'll leave all dishes dirty, all stations dirty, trash everywhere, and they restock nothing. While the closers are expected to do all of the stuff that they need to do to clean and to prepare everything for the openers the next morning and do all the things the openers refused to do during their shift.

It’s even worse when you clopen, you tell your closing self “oh I’ll get that in the morning” then morning comes and your opening self is so pissed 😂

This is why it's important for openers and closer to alternate between themselves, so everyone understands what coworkers are going through

It's true, closers have more work and in theory unequal pay. When Aldi introduced night shift and forcefully altered everyone's contracts, I jumped quick because why am I working unsociable hours for a job I'm being paid the same for previously and being told to be thankful. Better off now.

I actually hate how true this is. I work over night shifts and us late night people get blamed for so much when the day shifts make the biggest mess and leave it for us

I got yelled at because I didn’t fill up a cabinet and my boss asked “do you know how hard it is to start a shift without it being fill” I told her, I start like that everyday

Opening is so chill. Doing prep for the lunch and dinner rush is kinda relaxing.

my manager was a former closer who had to deal with this shit. if he ever heard an opener complain he would have them do a whole list of gross cleaning that rarely got done, or just sucked to do (cleaning drains, cleaning the windows, changing oil, etc.). no opener ever complained again. he was a G, paid closers extra, never had anyone clopen, stayed the whole shift, jumped between the front and back, free staff meals, did inventory himself, etc. it was great working for him.

Whenever the opener did this to me. I would tell them in the group chat “In the amount of time it took you to pull your phone out. Snap a photo. Upload it to group chat. And complain about how I forgot a piece of paper on the floor. You could have just picked it up. We are a team. We should act like one.”
At the time I didn’t care if they would fire me or not. My job got much better once I started acting like that.

I've had day managers complain about the condensation on the I cannot control the morning frost at 5am when I leave at 1am 😂

Edit: Since y'all liked this so much, I'll add that the same day manager wanted me to sleep in the lobby so I could do an opening when we had a blizzard. I didn't. He had to come in. I made it back for my closing. We had like 4 customers all day and bare bones crew. Then I got talked to about "food waste" for all the sh*t he prepared in the morning. Opening never had food waste because it always passed over to closing and we had to mark what items we had to toss. And you bet I always sent my people home with the "food waste" instead of tossing it in the trash every night 😂
