I'd be tempted to slice up the skin and add bits of it in as well, with the hopes those pieces would crisp up when frying.

Potatoes are key. Dont make the mistake of using butter mashed potatoes like i did a while ago. It gave it a weird taste ..

back in the day when my dad was but a wee lad he loved making poached salmon fishcakes, but i think he fried the salmon

It seems like the title of the video should include either the words "fried" or "baked"
and either "fresh" or "canned". Adjectives are your friend.
I'm only giving you a suggestion. It's up to you whether you want to use it.
You probably don't use the Youtube search engine to find videos as I do.
Not everyone wants to subscribe to cooking channels.
Some people just wake up and look for a recipe for "canned salmon" or "fresh salmon".
Is there some advantage to shorter, less descriptive, video names that I'm not aware of ?

Who on earth wastes a fine fillet of fresh salmon for fish cakes? A tin of decent salmon or even tuna if you like tuna.

There are two foods in the world that are just as good tinned as they are from fresh and then cooked. These two foods are tinned red salmon vs poached salmon, and tinned pears vs ripe pears.

There is absolutely NO point using fresh salmon to make salmon fishcakes. Just use tinned. There isn't a single person on the planet who would be able to tell the difference.

And, FWIW, right at the end of the video, those fishcakes weren't 'baked', but they were fried.

This is three minutes of my life that I won't get back.
