Chopin. Etude Op. 25 No. 9, "Butterfly", a fitting nickname both for how it sounds, and how it looks - at least the right hand! His shortest Etude, and one of the merriest (perhaps also the predecessor to ragtime), this one is one of those pieces that gets stuck in your hands forever. Have you ever noticed the similarity between the melody and harmony of this Etude and that of the middle section of 25-5 (Wrong Note)? Although in No. 5 the melody is in the middle voice and here it is on top, it's really interesting to see how Chopin took a similar idea and developed it in completely different ways! I've always felt those two pieces are like musical cousins so I'm glad in the 'Chopin Etude release schedule' they ended up next to each other. Hope you have a nice Monday ♥

Ah, yes. The more mature, refined version of the piece Chopin adapted from one of his early childhood etudes, "Caterpillar"

This is the default demo piece on my Casio keyboard and I've accidentally hit it so many damn times while performing or recording! Hah! Nice playing, Rousseau! :) -Andrew

Are you thinking about learning some Chopin Etudes with more time at home? This was the first Etude I ever learned as a child, and may be a good one for you to start with if you've never tackled any before, or a quick one read through if you have!

The saddest part of this piece is that it have to end

A very short piece, just like the life of a butterfly. Short, eventful, and beautiful.
