Demystifying Mammography

Mammography is a specialized medical imaging technique that uses low-dose x-rays to see inside the breast. This examination is used for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancers and other breast diseases in women. Breast cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. We hope this video demystifies the process of mammography so you can educate yourselves and the women in your lives about the importance of getting a mammogram.

This video explains who gets a mammogram, why a lot of women shy away from getting a mammogram, the equipment used during a mammogram, as well as the preparation required. This video also covers some of the benefits, risk, and limitations of the mammography procedure.

This video was made by McMaster University students Aamna Ali, Matthew Bacik, Sabrina Bakhramova, and Sumairaa Ahmed in collaboration with the Demystifying Medicine McMaster Program.
