If you want them to grow nice timber I'd be cutting the side branches rather than the top. That way you can get your biomass but you'll also get a nice thick straight trunk. Branched silky oaks arent worth much timber wise. I've been planting them along my fence line to eventually replace my ironbark posts with living fence posts. Will let you know in 10 years how it goes lol

I have them growing naturally on my farm in Australia. Some of the trunks are up to 4ft wide. Bees love them. They are the first plant to regenerate on steep eroding slopes. The timber has a beautiful grain and is very straight and stable. Good for making doors and windows.

Do they make good nature strip trees for shade? Can they damage sewer pipes?

Hi, I have two of them 4 years old grown from 2-3 feet high little plants, just in front of my house. But now I am worrying on how to trim them. Yesterday, I called someone to cut them into shape, but he cut it badly, and only from ond side je removed all branches from top to bottom. And also cut from top. It's summer in Northern India. Monsoon will after two months. Now How should I groom them?? Please guide.

What’s the update on the silky oak? How has it been working for you?

What is the distance between the main species rows?

I have some of those growing nextdoor. Nothing will grow under them. The soil looks all dry and horrible in their root zone. Tons of leaves and flower debris fall and don't decompose. Maybe it's different in Florida sand, but I'd get rid of them while you can. The birds sure do enjoy the flowering season though.
