Raising awareness about diabetes
Показать описание
Today is the annual global campaign aimed at raising awareness about diabetes.
The chronic disease occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
This leads to high blood sugar or glucose.
The World Health Organisation says about 830-million people worldwide have diabetes.
To highlight the importance of World Diabetes Day, we speak to Doctor Patrick Ngassa Piotie, Chairperson of the South African Diabetes Alliance, and Dr Judey Pretorius, Managing Director & Biomedical Scientist at Biomedical Emporium.
