Stephen is the only late night host who knows how to interview human beings. To ask thoughtful questions, and then to get out of the way. To listen. To be sincere and not try to overtalk the guest. To appreciate history, and to confront difficult subjects with reverence and intimacy. Over my 67 years I have always admired Elton John, and view him as a true living legend. It is so sweet to see how happy he is. This was an exemplary interview! Three great artists being authentic, and letting us watch.

Brandi Carlile is the glue holding all of this music history together. Selflessly and with honor. Great in her own right, she bows to those before her and with grace.

Watching this makes me realize how, damn lucky I am to have grow up when I did. At 71yrs old I know I had the best musical childhood❤

An interview for the ages. I hope Elton just goes on and on. I remember hearing ‘Daniel’ when I was much younger and being so impressed with the honesty and genuine feeling in the song. It’s gone through his whole life. I’ve stayed in a ward in a hospital, where Elton paid for a kitchen so the people there wouldn’t have to eat less than nutritious hospital food. I remember the countless concerts and fundraisers he’s done for people with AIDS. He’s a great great man, one in billions.

I couldn’t stop smiling during this segment. This is pure joy in our world. God knows we need Elton’s grace more than ever. I’m 52 and my life has been backgrounded by his music. I don’t know if he can ever understand the universal scope of his music.

Wow, Stephen this interview is absolutely wonderful with Sir Elton John & Brandi! I've been an Elton fan since the 1970's.

Quite possibly, the most entertaining interview that I remember Colbert conducting. Of course, lots of storytelling greatness from Elton, as well as Brandi, later on, but extremely poignant queries by Stephen...Much appreciated, all THREE OF YOU !! This 71yo Oregonian loves all of ya !!

Probably the best Colbert segment I’ve ever seen! Elton is a giant, and Brandi is becoming a giant. Total class!

It’s amazing what can happen when you write Elton a letter. At least back in 2010 anyway. April 6, 2010 8:05pm to be exact. Backstage in Corpus Christi, TX thanking Elton for the years of music and being shoulder to shoulder for a picture. Bucket list done!

Smiling and crying through both segments of this interview because of the light that Elton John's music is and has given to me in my life and to the world. Thank you, Sir Elton John for all your glorious light, of so many lifetimes that filled so many hearts. Thank you, Brandi Carlile for your helping keep that light of Elton and Joni alive. And thank you Stephen for this interview. So much light and so much love. It takes ones breath away.

I first heard Elton John in 1970.
I first saw him live in 1982, I was so emotional that night - I cried through most of that concert.
At this point in my life I have seen him live 19 times.
I still cry everytime I see him play Sorry seems to be the hardest Word.
He is my absolute idol, i can't imagine life without his magical presence.

God, Brandi Carlile is gorgeous. And what a talent! "The Joke" remains one of my favorite songs.

Few people, if any, have done the work of Brandi Carlile in re-invigorating the careers of our still-living musical legends. The list seems to keep growing. I don't believe Joni Mitchel would be singing today if not for her. Her work with Tanya Tucker was lightning in a bottle! Keep up the great work!
