What Is A Line Lock

Do I need a Line lock?
What is a line lock?
Does a line locks help?
These are some of the questions I received that led to this video. You don’t have to have a line lock. However it does help. Once you drive a car with one you’ll not want to be without one. It will definitely help with your burnouts if your just getting started in drag racing.

Edit: can you do some more dragracong basics? I've been around auto racing my whole life but now that I'm older I have a bunch of friends that do drags now. Theres a bunch of stuff I'm too afraid to ask or forget to ask about and it would be super helpful

I've got an '87 R10 shortbed with all 4 brakes on line lock. I didn't wanna redo my nice 700r4 with a TV cable to add a transbrake soo I did it like this. It's not super built and the whole theme was "teenage hotrod" so I went old with old-school upgrades and this is my poor man's trans brake for launches. For the record irs a stock shortblock 305 with a thumpr, dual 2.5 exhaust that dump in front of the rear tires, 2500 stall, Detroit trutrac 10 bolt, line lock, shimmed the hood up up to act like a cowl they way they did it cheap back in the day. It's not crazy and its not winning any races but its a numbers matching that I daily and its fun. I've got the idle at 1000rpm and it sounds like a damn track car lol

Maybe a dumb question but I wanted to put a line lock on my 65Coronet, it’s a single pod master cylinder and I have an automatic transmission. I just want to do crazy burnouts. Are line locks mostly for clutch cars?
