In digital marketing there are three different types of media- Paid, Owned, and earned. The difference between the three is that paid is anything that you actually pay for. So it is advertising, if you are running Facebook ads or banner ads, that is paid media. On the other hand, earned media is any media you have actually earned as a result of content marketing, or PR or any SEO efforts. For example, if someone writes about your business in a publication, that is earned media- You did not actually pay for that- they chose to write about you. You get a backlink, that is fantastic earned media. The other option is owned media, that would be your YouTube channel, website, blog, Facebook page, Instagram page; anything that you actually own that you do not have to pay to use. That is the difference between the three different media types in digital marketing; paid, owned and earned.
