People say the goals are normal. They are normal for modern day football, but in those days that was completely new. Pelé is the symbol of a revolution in world football. He is the precursor of all the greats we saw after him. God bless Pelé.

Pelé is the only footballer in the world to score 1 goal in quarter final, 3 goals in semifinal and 2 goals in final in the World Cup at only 17 years old. It’s not fiction but reality.

I'm 70 years old and growing up playing soccer "Pele" was who I wanted to play like. He was so great and his greatest inspired so many to try and be like him. Thanks to him we have seen some unbelievable players such as Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo & others but he was the GOAT for many years, I think he was happy to see so many great players follow in his footsteps. Rest in peace, you'll always be remembered.

I saw him in his last years as a player in Brazil from 1969 to 1974. Pelé never let himself be bullied. He knew how to retribute against some butcher defenders from his time. There are videos in Youtube showing how in the first half of the 1970 World Cup match the Uruguayan defender Dagoberto Santos on purpose stepped on Pelé, while he was on the ground due to a foul he had just received. On the second half, Pelé retributed with violent elbow hit in the brow of Dagoberto and threw himself over him. He did it with such a perfection that, incredibly, the referee booked a foul against Uruguay.

Many talk about how Pelé and his team Santos stopped a war in Nigeria. Few comment about another event, in Colombia. The referee expelled Pelé for some fault. Pelé went down to the vestiary and was about to take off his uniform and take a bath. He heard the Colombian supporters doing a huge noise outside, but he was out of the game. Suddenly, into the vestiary busts a director of Santos Football Club and nervously said:
Director:- Pele, you need to go back to the game. Now.
Pele: - But, I was expelled by the referee!_
Director: - Do you hear that huge noise? The Colombian supporters revolted, the police can't control them. They are breaking everything. The referee had to flee and was replaced by one of the linemen. The Colombian supporters want to see you playing, otherwise they will destroy the arena.
Pelé went back to the field, the new referee authorized him to get back into the game. The supporters from the adversary team were now happy (to see their team being defeated!).
This is no fantasy. Here are the facts: the game was on the 17th July 1968, at the El Campin arena, in Bogota, Colombia. The referee was Guillermo Velásquez. The new referee Omar Delgado. Santos won against the Colombian Olimpic team 4x2 and was acclaimed as if the Colombian team had won.

On another game in Lima, Peru. Santos was playing against the Alianza de Lima team. The Santos coach decided to replace Pelé, to spare physically him for the next game. Well, this is normal. But, not to the Alianza de Lima supporters. They went beserk and invaded the field. The Peruvian referee was forced to authorize Pelé to come back to the game. Santos was winning 5x1 over the Alianza de Lima, even so their supporters wanted Pelé on the game.

He. Was. Magic. He bewitched everybody with his genial play, including the adversary's team supporters.

Pele. The man who turned football into an art. Imagine his genius on a modern bowling green of a pitch.

Fun fact: during the nigerian civil war, both sides stopped fighting for 2 days to enjoy Pelé playing

Man… Pele saw the field better than anyone else, AND had the skills to actually take advantage of it. Incredible.

I'm American and whenever I think of Brazil, the first person that always comes to mind is Pele. No one is more synonymous with one country than him. My condolences to all his fans and may he rest in peace.

Pele was ahead of his time. It reflects in his style of play. His combination of both legs is phenomenal despite the pitches not being so smooth as we have them today. He literally made d No. 10 Jersey special and reserved for exceptional players.

As a young kid who was a soccer fanatic, I had a VHS tape of Pele’s game highlights. Surprised I didn’t wear out the tape with how many times I watched it. Condolences to his family, his friends and his fans worldwide. What a humble man, a kind soul with the greatest smile! RIP King Pele👑🇧🇷

I grew up hearing stories from my grandpa about a certain Brazilian who was able to do things that nobody was capable of. Today this legend passed and football won’t be the same. Rest in peace O’Rey 💔

He is king, he is unique. He is a respectable human being in this world. For me it doesn't matter what he did because he will always be Pelé a man of maximum universal respect. Goodbye Edson thank you for what you did on earth. Pelé will be eternal.
