Did you know that Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb didn’t wear bras for several episodes of The Brady Bunch, or are you surprised to learn that any of the show’s child stars would want to rebel against the successful series’ innocent demeanor? The Brady Bunch came on the air in 1969 and became a massive hit with audiences almost instantly. The show followed the exploits of its titular family, made up of two widowed parents and their respective children from their previous marriages. Those children consisted of three boys and three girls. A different talented child star portrayed each of these children, with the eldest daughter being portrayed by actress Maureen McCormick.

Maureen McCormick came of age while filming The Brady Bunch, and this made her particularly poised to begin rebelling against the show’s innocent demeanor over the course of its five-season run. Maureen’s rebellion first took the form of her suggesting more mature storylines to the show’s writer, a suggestion that they understandably turned down. After this, Maureen took the maturation of the show into her own hands by deciding not to wear a bra.

Maureen convinced Eve Plumb, who played middle Brady daughter Jan, to join her in her braless hijinks. They went through the filming of several episodes before the series’ director took notice and promptly reprimanded them for the deed. These two stars weren’t the only members of The Brady Bunch's cast to grow increasingly bored of the series, and its innocent demeanor by the show's end. Join Facts Verse as we explore why Maureen McCormick filmed these episodes of The Brady Bunch without a bra.

The fact we had no idea they had issues with the cast, it goes to show the producers and directors kept their professional attitudes up. They got through 5 years with testy people and had a hit. I watched each episode and remember most of them. They did their job and who really cares what happened beyond the camera? It goes to show that actors are just as petty and human as the audience

Robert Reid died on May 12, 1992, at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California, at age 59. Reed's death was initially attributed solely to cancer, but details from his death certificate were made public revealing that Reed was HIV-positive and that it was a major contributing factor for his untimely death.

From Wikipedia: In November 1991, Robert Reed was diagnosed with colon cancer. When he became ill, he allowed only his daughter Karen and actress Anne Haney, a close friend, to visit him. Haney later said of Reed, "He came from the old school, where people had a sense of decorum. He went the way he wanted to, without publicity." Weeks before his death, Reed called Henderson and asked her to inform the rest of The Brady Bunch cast that he was terminally ill. He died on May 12, 1992, at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California, at age 59.Several years after his death, Reed's Brady Bunch co-stars – notably Barry Williams and Florence Henderson – publicly acknowledged his sexual orientation, and revealed that the cast and crew of The Brady Bunch knew. I heard most of this here on YouTube

Thank goodness the parents were never portrayed as being swingers. That would be disgusting.

Hmm Marcia or Jan hiding a boy or staying out late would have made for great episodes.

The headline was she left nothing to the imagination but never mentioned it during any of the videos

Thank you for this video, I must say that it deeply saddens me to hear that the many of the Brady Bunch stars ended up resenting their involvement in what for me was nothing short of a life saving program, growing up it gave me an escape from my own families tragic problems and inspired me to grow into the incredible roll model that Robert Reed so perfectly portrayed, I hoped that one day I would meet and possibly marry Maureen McCormick who I grew to love and viewed her as the perfect woman, I knew full well that they were all actors but that in itself only fuelled my admiration for all of them, they were paid to bring so much joy to so many of us and I am truly sorry that joy was not reciprocated.

I always thought Greg looked stoned in a few episodes (squinting red eyes sometimes)

The bra thing is not much of a rebellion if no one noticed

I've heard about this. It's kind of funny all these years later. Sometimes we don't always seek the best ways to get attention. I love the Brady Bunch and still watch it when I can find it while channel surfing. Loved the Hawaii episodes!!! Thank you!! 😊

I always heard Robert Reed died from HIV. I didn't know he was an alcoholic too, but then what actor wasn't back then?

It's funny to me that the shows and movies and production companies that try to maintain an innocent or squeaky clean image usually show the actors and actresses acting out the most

Thank you for not making the mistake several others have made in descriptions of this series by saying Carol was "divorced"! The old TV Guides - back when they would put significant show details in them - even said "Widower and widow marry and bring their two families together"!

A producer or director wouldn't dare put his hand on a child or adult to verify they were wearing a braziere today. I laughed out loud (in disbeleif) when he mentioned him feeling them up to make sure they were wearing a bra. What a perv.

I watched it back in 1969 till it's end, still watching it in 2023. It was the 90's when I finally saw episodes missed during the early years. LOL

Christopher Knight was a big hit in 2021 as Oprah interviewed Meghan and Harry on his patio chairs and tables. Everyone couldn’t stop talking about it and his “Christopher Knight Home Design Patio” Furniture sold out wherever it was sold.
