USA Legalisation is the system by which an official paper issued by foreign public officials is rendered legally valid in India.

Executive Document issued by the public authorities of INDIA
The most common documents are civil status documents (Degree, HSC, marriage, birth, PCC, medical certificates, POA), police clearance certificates and affidavits.

These documents require only Apostille by the Indian government. Additional legalisation by the Embassy / Consulate of the USA is no longer necessary.

The USA joined the Hague nation in the year 1964. Since then, it has accepted Apostille and legal Documents, and no further legalisation is required.

An Apostille is solely a certification of a Document issued by a legal or registered authority in a country. If the certificates are Apostilled, it determines that it is verified and legal to use in the nation in which it is Apostilled. For each country, there is a different Apostille. A list of countries where the Apostille is Accepted is known as the Hague nation.

Three central verification needs to be done to get Apostille to documents.

Attestation by the Notary Advocate
State Authorisation from the state home secretariat or department.
MEA Apostille

Finally, one more step is involved if the country you want to get Apostille is not a Hague nation.

Legalisation from the Embassy of the Country ( only if the country is not in the Hague Convention)

MEA does not accept any document for Apostille, and it must go through our Agency.
We are certified by MEA to get Apostille for you.

In 1961, nations cooperated to create a system where documents issued in one nation will be legal in other countries without extra effort to make them legal. This system, collectively called the Hague Convention, adopted a document referred to as an Apostille that all member countries would recognise.

According to the pact made in the HCCH convention, member countries do not need to legalise the Document iDocumentmber countries to be legal, and simple Apostille will suffice.

All the apostilled documents must be numbered consecutively by the authority recognised throughout the apostille convention. The recognised regular Apostille includes a seal and necessary references.

Following are the details an Apostille contains:
Name of the country from which the document wDocumentd.
Name of the Person to whom Document document.
Name of person signing the Document.
Documentation of the singed person.
Place of certification date of certification.
The number of the certificate.
Seal or stamp of authority issuing certificate.
Signature of authority issuing certificate.
