now I wanna see a fighter jet with realistic speed flying through Los Santos.
you know, going at 1.8 mach (1380 mph) speed and not at 200 mph

My 3 reasons why the top speed is so low.
1) Creating the illusion of a bigger map, of course.
2) Keeping things competitive in Online.
3) Preventing map pop-ins. I thought that would be your second reason when you played that clip.

fun fact: if ur car has digital speedometer then it is actually correct speed showing up.
Ooh and another reason top speed is around 120mph is that physics are connected to the FPS game is running at. They fixed it on the PS5/XSX tho. One more reason could be that GTA5 came out on ps3/xbox360 first and it was already struggling with loading textures so going even faster wont help

I was actually thinking about it and was curious, thanks for the info bro

There’s one more reason and it’s the speed of which the objects load into the game. In GTA Online it would be super difficult for the game to load in objects, keep you online, and drive 200+ mph unless your on pc without any hardware limitation unlike consoles

A difficulty option for realistic handling and top speed would have been really great.

That night driving gameplay reminds me heavily of Midnight Club LA. Especially if you play that game on a CRT, night visibility + slippery driving + excess traffic = horrible experience.

Fun fact: a Nascar stock car is faster than an F1 car in GTA V.

I would much prefer the feel of going 200 in the game, it feels so much more realistic! Would definitely make the races more exiting. The only reason I think they didn’t do it is because this game was designed to run on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Those consoles simply couldn’t handle those kinds of speeds.

Physics are another reason. At least some vehicles are nearer to the ground the faster you're going. The collision physics start behaving differently in abnormally high speeds.

Sometime ago I modded my game so the vehicles are WAY faster than normal. While I was driving a blazer I found out that I couldn't go over a certain speed because it got so low to the ground that it clipped it and made me stop.

i've been complaining about the top speed for years
i would honestly think upping it from 120 to 150 would make a huge difference.

Good point about the difficulty curve. I will say however, even at the artifivially low speeds we currently have, a lot of player have a hard time controlling their cars lol.

As far as handling mods go, I really like “DriveV” it’s a simcade-ish handling setup with realistic top speed and acceleration. Pretty good in my opinion.

Your one of the best GTA modding goats, GTA 4 brought me here so many times, am glad your still making gta content, great video man :)

Yo, my dude, I'm glad he's still making content, I thought he ended his videos like some YouTubers do, where they don't upload for a long time.

Driving a slower car or having cruise control as an option would easily solve the last problem you were talking about

Adding to this I also think it's an optimisation method for rendering the environment, especially considering last gen consoles and low end PCs. The speed is just fast enough to ensure that the environment loads, thus making it seem like the whole map is pre-loaded instead of things randomly popping up.

I literally have an online mod menu JUST to adjust the cars to their real speed

I fail to see how the player's skill and reaction times, and also the difficulty are any relevant factors to not increase the top speeds at all.

Why? Simple, you can just not drive as fast, or drive slower cars/bikes if you truly need to.
