This Backward Snail Just Wants to Find Love

Jeremy is no ordinary garden snail. Unlike most of his kind, his shell coils to the left. While this unique feature makes him interesting, mating is a challenge. Luckily for Jeremy, one scientist made it his mission to play matchmaker for this lonely snail.

Fun update on Jeremy. He was paired with two other Lefties and was rejected by both. Those other two hooked up instead. Jeremy is still single.

He actually died fairly recently and all of his offspring have right coiled shells. They say it might take generations for the recessive gene to show up

Update 4 years later: Jeremy was rejected by the two leftie snails that mated with eachother instead of Jeremy and he was still single but luckily a 4th leftie was found and Jeremy happily had kids before he died and the offspring carry him on

Update: A third snail was found named Tomeu, who ended up mating with Lefty. After Lefty left, just before Jeremy died, Jeremy mated with Tomeu, finally finding love. (Snails are both male and female, so Tomeu and Lefty had children together and Tomeu had Jeremy’s children)
