I loved Willem Dafoe's character, it's not just a cardboard one dimensional "evil guy", nor he is a "good guy", it's a nuanced character with virtues and defects. When the other doctor confronts him about the nature of Bella he just decides to be honest and practical so he explains plainly what is going on. It's also inline with his character, a man who mainly approaches things logically and coldly. Yet he is hurt when Bella goes away, despite his claims of having a scientific mind and he being beyond emotions.

There are many things like that that make him great.

One of the better interviews about "Poor Things." I especially appreciated Rami Youssef's first comments (starting 7:27) about the way the various chief male characters each represented different parts of "all men." Fascinating movie.

Isn't it funny how lots of people are comparing Emma being nude in the movie with prostitution? Why nobody is taking about Mark Ruffalo ? Exactly.
This is one of many aspects that the film is about.
People want to own women, choose for them, force them, and then insult them :)) Be better.

Beautiful compassionate comment by Willem (and the way he said it, his face...) at 11:07.

I loved this movie!!! I feel Bella was like a man in a woman' body..She treated Mark Ruffalo, Duncan like many men throughout the centuries have treated women and have suppressed and control their behavior.. Duncan (mark Ruffalo) could not stand it which made me really laugh.. He got what he had given out for years! Thank you for such great acting by all and inspiring us to do much reflection on ourselves and society !

Willem answered with plenty of confidence, "A lot can get accomplished with those sex scenes, even the gratuitous ones." Having acted in Nymphomaniac, he's overqualified to answer that.

Brilliant film...loved, loved, love it! Excellent interviews too. Very thoughtful questions, intelligent young woman interviewing. A relief to watch such interviews.

Funny, you also interviewed Rami Youssef yet his name isn't in the title?

I feel like Mark has spent so much time playing Bruce that he kinda doesn’t seem secure in his abilities 😭 it’s ok mark you did quite well 🫶🏽
