There are over 32 million Americans who claim Irish ancestry; that's more than seven times the population of Ireland and the second most claimed ancestry, following German. The Irish in America started out at poor laborers but soon organized and became a powerful political machine, influencing local and national politics throughout major U.S. cities.
Congress declared March "Irish-American Heritage Month" and Irish everywhere celebrate Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick, on March 17.

Americans please, it is St PATRICKS DAY or PADDYS Day is it NOT "pattys day", , patty is the diminutive of the FEMALE name Patricia or a burger. Paddy comes from the Irish name Padaig, hence the 2 "D"s....Also the THREE leaf SHAMROCK is associated with IRELAND and St PATRICKS DAY, a four leaf clover has NOTHING to do with Ireland.
