The Brooks Hyperion Max 2 is a substantial update on the original Brooks Hyperion Max, with a significant increase in stack height and a new plastic plate running through the midsole. How have the changes affected the ride of the shoe? Nick has been out for a first run to find out.

I put 450km on the original Max and I think these will work well for me too. The Max was my first Brooks shoe and I was surprised. I ended up buying Ghost Max too and that has also been great though only at 100km. I have the Speed 4, but find them very clunky for easy paces.

I absolutely hated the first version. Did not work well for my feet at all, so I’m looking forward to the changes on the V2.

I've done 2 runs in the Mizuno Neo Vista in the last 2 days and they are brilliant, not the fastest but they can pick the pace up and, at £150 retail (I paid £90 for a lightly used pair), they are better value too! I'd even choose the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 over these too!

The plate is nylon or PEBA and you don’t feel it. I think it depends on what works best for one’s biomechanics. The NovaBlast, eg—though lighter and softer—-doesn’t feel as nimble to me as a very petite, lightweight runner; I find the massive rear midsole is clumsy. The rocker geometry on the Hyp Max2 works so well for me that it “runs” far lighter than its weight. I got it for my longer runs. The upper is incredibly comfortable; far more supportive than and at least as breathable as my other trainers (Rebel4 and Mach6). I went through 2 pairs of the Hyperion Max1 and would probably therefore like its successor as well but mostly for shorter mileage.

I’m not gonna drop my Boston 12s yet especially since I can find them much cheaper ….. but glad brooks is getting some faster shoes. Could you get some bigger taller people in your test group ? Shoes behave differently sometimes for over 6 ft 180 lbs or more folks . I mentioned as some other testers mentioned this might work well for bigger taller runners ( like me ) . Thanks for the honest reviews.

Oh I think this shoes destroys the endorphin speed 4 and neo vista. This shoe is faster and way more fun.

When do you guys think you'll be able to get out a More V5 review?

For the life of me I cannot figure out why shoe companies continue to produce shoes with a heel to toe drop that is anything higher than 6mm.

How would you rate to superblast 2 or maybe adizero pro 3?

Hyperion Max 2 vs TYR Valkirye Speedworks or go with the good old Adidas Boston 12 and trusty Endorphin Speed 3/4?

Bad move from Brooks in my opinion. One of the things that made the Hyperion Max so successful is the nimble and light package the it came in. It felt really fast and snappy when accelerating and cornering...plus it didn't have a plate. I'm afraid that the Hyperion Max 2 is too heavy, it has a plate, and it cost a little more than the original. I think it's just far too many better options available with the changes that were made.
