The Commons: Litany of Humility – Thomas Muglia

Показать описание
Thomas Muglia was inspired by a prayer attributed to Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val of Spain who served as friend and advisor to Pope St. Pius X. This gentle setting of the Litany of Humility is a call to live in imitation of Christ, whose humble heart offers healing for the extreme divisions of today’s world.

From my desire to be loved,
from my desire to be extolled,
from my desire to be honored,
from my desire to be praised,
from my desire to be preferred to,
from my desire to be consulted,
from my desire to be approved,
deliver me, Jesus.

O Jesus, meek and humble hearted,
hear my prayer, hear my prayer.
O Jesus, meek and humble hearted,
hear my prayer, hear my prayer.

And from the fear to be humbled,
from the fear to be despised,
from the fear of suffering rebuke,
from the fear to be defamed,
from the fear to be forgotten,
from the fear of ridicule,
fear to be wronged or suspected,
deliver me, Jesus.

You are very underrated. I am not Catholic yet, but I've been thinking for a while now to convert. Was looking for good songs by Catholic artists. This is my first time learning about this prayer. It is such a humbling and powerful prayer, and coupled with your guitar playing and voice makes it even more powerful!

This is awesome! Wasn't aware that this prayer existed. How perfect for the times we're all trying to survive in! OCP needs to publish this in "Breaking Bread" as a simple hymn that the entire congregation can sing!

Nueva Eva has just brought out a Spanish edition of my little book of Cardinal Merry del Val's SPIRITUAL WRITINGS which appeared with Gracewing in 2009, and which you can still buy on Amazon. Please get your networks to promote both versions! My Spanish translation (2021) has an endorsement by Pope Francis; in Arizona there must be quite a lot of Spanish speakers, I assume. God bless your new songs!
