Cozy Lakeside Cabin | Rainbows in Winter

We take to the woods for a retreat at an Alaskan Public Use cabin. Set in a beautiful location this small cabin kept us and the dogs toasty warm. The ice fishing for Rainbow Trout and winter exploration kept us well entertained and looking forward to another stay at one of these unique cabins.

I’ve stayed in a few of the state cabins on the Kenai Peninsula when hiking the Resurrection pass from the Soldotna side to the Hope side. Thirteen of us hiked together in 1990. It took three days to hike with snow shoes in March. We took the wrong trail and hiked through Devils Pass, which was really high and was an avalanche shoot, Lol. We were following the ppl in front of us. Myself and a friend lost the trail once we got over the pass and it got dark. We ended up finding big spruce trees, breaking spruce branches and making a spruce Branch bed and slept on them. We had everything we needed, each carrying a big back pack with sleeping bag, food, etc. The next day we climbed the ridge and found the trail and walked to the cabin we were supposed to sleep in that night. That day we finished our hike and walked out to the parking lot on the Hope side, where a bus was waiting for the 13 of us, it was an incredible experience, one that I’m extremely happy that we did as a group.
