In this video I take a wee walk around the beautiful town of Rothbury in Northumberland, the most Northern county in England. This town is home to Cragside Estate, the STUNNING country house and gardens which we featured in last week’s video. See a few sights of Rothbury, and learn a few historical facts on my tour. And of course, see some food. And maybe even magenta flowers…

Very interesting tour of Rothbury, and you're right about the architecture! Delightful shops, fascinating buildings, and impressive church. (Shame your palette and black pudding are so incompatible 😜 ) Your tour of Rothbury made me realise just how much of England I have yet to see and savour. Thanks again!

You missed a few bits. My old house on th high street (bank manager, residence with the mansard roof and the fabulous deli. The most amazing ironmongers that is Anderson’s, where I used to wander into an king for “one of these” or buy screws at 5p each. It was a heavenly place to bring up my children, with an account at Tully’s, my kids wandered in my kids could pop in and pick up bits and pieces and leave me with the bill (no they never did take the mickey, but the hilarity was when my daughter went in, they always knew that she was about to demand her “Olivers” ..olives. I have never known a more supportive community.

Another beautiful town, in the midst of all that countryside. And those sausage, and cakes looked great too.

We stayed in Rothbury also. Our Airbnb was along the High Street near the Fish and Chips shop. This was in 2018 and they are no longer doing Airbnbs. We arrived late and then went to Alnwick Castle the next day so we didn't have time to check out the village so I enjoyed your tour. I am also a sticky toffee pudding addict. It is rather new as I don't remember it being a thing when I was visiting England as a child in the 1960s and 1970s. While visiting a cousin about 10 years ago, they served sticky toffee pudding and I instantly fell in love. I've made my own back here in Virginia and I think I do a pretty good job. We did have some sticky toffee pudding on the same 2018 trip on Ullswater in the Lake District which is supposed to be where it was popularized.

fantastic looking town. I love the fact that they still have local shops serving the community. it makes your shopping trips so much more enjoyable than going to franchises. not forgetting you are guaranteed fresh local products and a genuine smile from the staff.

Thanks for showing the rest of the world that there is more to the UK than just London, Bath and Stonehenge. You were in my part of the UK and you and you made me feel quite proud! I know all the other parts of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will echo this for their locations. Thanks again!

I love visiting churches in the UK. They all have unique aspects to them. Those little shops are so much fun to explore and we found the prices very reasonable. ❤️

Nice video but a couple of inaccuracies. Rothbury is about 30 miles inside the English border and almost always has been. It has only temporarily been Scottish hands during their invasions into England.

Beautiful place. Used to pass through there often and visited Cragside a number of times.

Have you ever considered producing this type of vlog for other European medieval country's? France was a great ally to the Americans in ridding your country of the British.

Yes, I am with you on the almost personalized quaintness of the villages in England. Each has its own identity. The interior of the church and the stained glass windows are gorgeous. Now I've seen the sausages, scones and other cakes I am needing something to still my hunger pangs. Lovely video indeed- to get a glimpse of UK's uniqueness. 🙏 🇳🇱 🙋‍♀️ 🇳🇿
