Hi : I use black roofing paper to wrap trees in an emergency situation like you wrap your banana trees. Got this method from the old timers when I was growing up in NY.

You should reduce water in the fall to cause the roots to produce Abscisic acid, this auxin travels to the branches causing them to harden off and the leaves to fall.

Over here at deep south Texas all my trees were and still are awake with fruit. I'm still waiting to see what's the extent of the damage of this artic storm.

Great video. I was worried because it has been getting into the mid 40's at night. I guess my potted fig trees are ok.

The late spring sudden cold snaps are really doing a number on a lot of the trees. The fig trees were relatively OK, as it was not warm enough to wake them up at first.

ADVICE None of my ( 1 year old ) fig trees, here in Houston have gone dormant and are about 5 to 6 feet tall now ( a single tall limb I want to cut them down to about 2 tall or 3 feet tall to start shaping my trees and create a larger base ( stump ) with few plants are only about 3 foot tall and are double limbs with a bud on top should I pinch the bud ( cut off the bud ) to get the top of the plant to spread What advice can you give me?

Hey I have a question.. can I score my fig trees to encourage branching??
I have a couple really gangly branches which I have pruned but that new branches are only at the top of the stem, and I want more branches in the middle of it.
Your advice would be highly appreciated.

I’ve got a few varieties in the ground that I left unprotected. It got down to -5F with a windchill of -25F and I was surprised to see that they were still pliable. The tips appeared to be brown and dead but when I peeled it back a bit there was some green underneath. I’m talking Alma, Brown Turkey, Chicago Hardy, and Verde. They could be still in the middle of dying down to the ground but interesting anyway.

How long do you keep figs in 5 gal? Do you plant to root prune?

Did that damage from last march effect the plant this season? I have similar looking damage on a couple of shoots on my fig and wasn't sure if I should propagate the damaged trunks.

My fig trees weren't dormant at all, they still had unripe fruit and green leaves all over the place.
