I've had some amazing BRW made into a '59 and a '66 Strat necks.
I've got a blank of African blackwood that rings like glass!.
The BRW smells so sweet and Spivey too.

I bought a late 70s Brazilian fretboard blank and it sounds and looks fantastic. I held it about 1/4 of the way down and tapped it and it has an unbelievable bass response

Cocobolo is just a little bit more dense. I've got a board of cocobolo that looks a lot like Brazilian rosewood too.

Brazlian just has a nice ring like no other. Cocobolo has too much oil content. The oil actually dampens the resonance of the wood. Cocobolo is a nice wood but can't keep up with brazilian. If you want to make a meaningful test then cut two pieces to the exact same size and then drop them on a ceramic, concrete or stone floor. You will then hear the difference best.

The cocobolo looked a bit thicker. Deeper tone. 👍 What would you think of bocote for a fretboard?

Have you tried Amazon Rosewood? I've got some Amazon rosewood fretboard blanks and those ring like a bell when tapped.

Unfortunately cocobolo is also now on the Cites list and is treated the same . I was fortunate in Australia to buy a piece of Cocobolo 8" x 3 " x 38" I'm unsure what to use it for yet.

Cocobolo needs to be quite a bit thinner then the Brazilian your comparing it to as it's a much denser wood
